Manitou Springs

Standard

Gosh, I can’t believe it’s been already four months since my last entry. I apologize to my faithful readers for the delay. Well, as the saying goes, life gets in the way. And boy, it sure did. In all the busyness of these last few months, I found time to sneak away, exploring new vistas. One of the places was Manitou Springs; a Colorado mountain town nestled in the foothills of the majestic Rockies. IMG_8254
Famous for its spectacular setting and natural mineral springs, this unique community has been charming visitors right from its beginnings as a “scenic health resort” since 1872.
Before that, Native American Indians had already discovered the area’s rich mineral springs, soaking in these healing waters. Even today, these health beneficial springs are still flowing, attracting health geeks from around the globe.IMG_8238IMG_8242
Ambling through the picturesque downtown area, I was smitten. And so were my sister, and a long-time friend who recently relocated to Colorado Springs. Rows of one-story, adjoining, small shops, their unique facades and store windows brimming with colorful displays of clothing, candy, and a boundless array of souvenirs treated our eyes and souls. IMG_8267Restaurants, cafes, and pubs offering choices of local and international fare left us with no easy choice. But one can never go wrong with coffee and cake. IMG_8239So, we stepped into “Spice Of Life”, for some exotic beverage and treats IMG_8237before strolling down Main Street and cooling off in the shade of a nearby creek side park.
As I sat there, waters bubbling past, I admired Manitou Spring’s majestic backdrop. Snowcapped Pikes Peak; inspiration to one of America’s most beloved songs. Humming the tune, I thought of the amazing story that gave us “America, The Beautiful.” More about that in my next blog.
